The Greater Hazleton Area Astronomical Society
Society meetings are open to visitors
GHAAS meetings are held at the Hazle Twp Municipal Authority building on 27th Street. It is located behind the Hazle Twp Fire Company across from Barber Ford. Meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month except December (see note below). The doors open at 7:00 PM and the meeting begins at 7:30. Our meetings consist greeting of new attendees followed by essential society business and an informational presentation by one or several members of the club. There is an opportunity to chat with other members both before and after the meeting.
Note: During the summer months the club conducts Star Parties at several local state parks. Meetings are not held on those evenings. Refer to the Star Parties 2019 tab above. Star Parties are open to the general public.
GHAAS was formed in 1977 by a group of amateur astronomers as a non-profit educational organization. The society was incorporated in 1995. Its purpose is to advance the science of astronomy by stimulating interest and encouraging the study therein by educating its members and the public through astronomical observation techniques and the use of astronomical equipment.
